Thank You

by jamie on Aug.22, 2010, under news, opinion, updates

As this Journey continues I cannot tell all of you how grateful I am for the gifts you have given me up to this point. Although my new job isn’t in the news business, it is a move that makes sense to help me advance as a person. I have learned more about myself, life and the impact I will have on my customer’s lives last week than I ever expected.

The one thing that hasn’t changed about me is my passion for current events and the search for answers no matter how easy or difficult they may be to obtain. Thank you to the ones who picked me and allowed my passion to shine when we went in search of answers. The international recognition is really cool!

I do not want this to be a slap in the face of the people who believed in my talents as a video journalist. This place I am at is merely one of those unexpected turns that life takes you in. I did not have any clue that I would be in the place I am today.

To each and everyone of you, whether I met you and you shared your story with me or we worked together, thank YOU. What you shared with me whether it was a laugh, crying or screaming at me, you helped me get to where I am today and I cannot thank you enough for that gift you gave me.

This has got to be the funniest thing. It is interesting to hear someone else perspective on our foul language. Have fun!

iPhone iOS4 Jailbroken! But…

by jamie on Aug.01, 2010, under Uncategorized

Engadget: iPhone 4 Jailbreak is Official

It appears that the Jailbreak is in the wild but after trying it myself it still has a long way to go.  Some of the sources are missing or not working and it broke my ability to send MMS messages.  For me… This is too much messing around for now.  Let this one bake for a while and don’t be so anxious to try it out.

Earthquake Survival

by jamie on Apr.06, 2010, under Uncategorized

Earthquake on YouTube

Whether this video was real or fake it shows how scary it was to go through a 7.2 Earthquake that was over 100 miles away.

I have to say that I DID survive the quake and was not harmed or injured. The quake happened while I was doing an Easter related story in Downtown Palm Springs. Long story short– It is events like these that make you feel so insignificant in the world. Unlike the quakes in Chile and Haiti, I felt this quake and it and it WAS scary. It really brought the reality home when I felt the actual quake along with the aftershocks.

Changing of the guards… again.

by jamie on Jan.27, 2010, under news, opinion

My long time friend and former co-worker from KESQ had is last newscast Wednesday night.  It is really sad to see him go and move on to a bigger news market but he really has earned it.  He is moving to Las Vegas where he will be working as a General Assignment Reporter joining the ranks of such great reporters as George Knapp (no relationship). Along side Nathan, his girlfriend- Anne Petersen, also a long time friend and former co-worker of mine will be joining him at KLAS-TV in Las Vegas.

Having seen the people I admire most move on is tough. Hopefully, we will all rejoin each other again in another newsroom!

Good luck Nathan and keep up the good work!

More fun stuff!

by jamie on Jan.24, 2010, under updates, videos

What was on my site for a while and left due to a little snafu? drum roll please…… THE VIDEO PAGE! Its back! I found videos that I shot and edited that someone had posted on youtube so I was able to link to them. The person who posted the videos must be a fan of my former partner in crime Nathan Baca. They only post Nathan’s stories on their youtube account so they must be one of his biggest fans! Enjoy the videos and I will be posting a blog post detailing the days and what went on behind the scenes of the parts of the Scientology series.

Lesson Learned

by jamie on Jan.21, 2010, under opinion

I was asked by a friend to provide my services as a videographer for an event that took place last month. After being wooed with extra compensation to do several other side projects for one of the organizers, I agreed to take on the job. I performed the duties I was asked to do and delivered the product but communication broke down almost over night. Excuses and promises of meeting the next week has led to a waste of time and a big lesson learned.

ALWAYS get it in writing and have a signed agreement.  It doesn’t guarantee that you will get compensated but it gives you more leverage should you see legal action. This includes dealings with people you think are friends, family, and anyone else that asks you for help.

New Goodies

by jamie on Jan.19, 2010, under updates

I have found that the newer versions of wordpress are allowing for better widgets and easier interoperability.  It is really cool to see the changes since I last worked on this. Look for the stories that I dig on Digg.
